Professor Warren is a rough-around-the-edges life-long bachelor who returns from a book tour with a surprise for his friends: he has met a lady named Fern. His friends are happily married and they do want the professor to find happiness, but happiness is different for everyone. They worry that Professor Warren might wildly change just for the sake of a relationship with poetry-loving Fern.
